There is a growing movement towards smaller,
well-appointed homes. Smaller homes are not a compromise but rather an intentional choice for better-designed, more meaningful living.
Thoughtfully designed smaller homes combined with shared communal spaces and amenities, allow people to live well, stay engaged, and remain connected as their needs evolve.
In other words, smaller, well-designed, intentional homes when thoughtfully and intentionally organized support belonging, shared experiences, and everyday interactions creating community.
Belonging fosters community. People are happier, healthier and more fulfilled when they feel seen, supported, and connected. Isolation erodes well-being; shared experience strengthens it.
Architecture can either invite or inhibit this connection. When spaces are scaled for people, encourage encounters, and respect context, they create conditions for community to form naturally. Community is a direct outcome of thoughtful design.
Community matters because it transforms space into place, and place into something people choose to invest in—emotionally, socially, and generationally.
The house has blown us away. ooA took a small footprint and created a truly unique space that flows so well it feels twice the size the plans indicate. It is evident that they take great pride in their work.
